Oral cancer can develop anywhere in your mouth—on your tongue, lips, gums, cheeks, palate, or throat. Early warning signs are often subtle: a persistent sore that doesn't heal, a red or white patch, unusual bleeding, pain while swallowing, or a lump in your mouth or neck.

During your screening, we visually examine all oral tissues, palpate (feel) your neck and jaw for abnormal lumps, and assess for any suspicious lesions. We use advanced diagnostic techniques to identify even small areas of concern that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Certain risk factors increase your oral cancer risk: tobacco use (smoking and chewing), heavy alcohol consumption, HPV infection, and prolonged sun exposure (lip cancer). However, oral cancer can develop in anyone, including patients with no risk factors. This is why universal screening is so important.

If we identify any suspicious areas, we document them carefully and may recommend a biopsy for definitive diagnosis. Early intervention—catching cancer before it spreads—dramatically improves treatment outcomes and survival rates.
